WebJun 1, 2024 · The axle vent tube goes into the box rail under the bed. Anyway I washed my box rail all the way thru with a hose and I am wondering now if I may have flooded the axle. There was quite a bit of sand and junk in that cross support. Is there is a check valve in that fitting? Probably due for a service anyway, but I am thinking of doing it ASAP now. WebOct 7, 2011 · Pipe is always measured by inside diameter and tube is measured by outside diameter. 1/8th inch pipe threads are 1/8th inch inside and about 5/16ths outside due to the thickness of the pipe walls. For instance a 1/2 inch pipe thread tap is about 3/4 inch in diameter due to the approximately 1/8 inch thick pipe walls. WebJun 18, 2011 · The solution is to lower the fluid a little under the fill hole. That's how mine finally stopped leaking after having the rear end replaced because of the blown pinion seal. This cars seem to be over filled from factory, and that's why the leak thru the vent or worst yet, blow the pinion seal like mine did. Last edited: May 28, 2011.
WebAug 28, 2012 · Remove and discard the rattle cap vent from the axle tube. Clean any oil residue from the axle tube using isopropyl alcohol or suitable cleaner. Install Differential Vent and torque to 20 N-m (15 lb-ft). Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 205-02. Remove differential fill plug and inspect fluid level.
